The Villages Strawberry Festival Buzz: Can You Really Eat Honeycomb?
Share
Day 1 of The Villages Strawberry Festival at Brownwood Paddock Square was absolutely incredible. The sun was shining, the strawberry shortcakes were flowing, and our booth? Well, let's just say we had a constant crowd gathered around asking all sorts of great questions and sampling our delicious raw, unfiltered honey. One particular product, however, had everyone curious, confused, and captivated all at once: honeycomb.
While we only sell our honeycomb - or chunk honey, as it's also called - in person, there is also honeycomb in our 1.5 lb. Raw Wildflower Chunk Honey which is available online!
Now, here's the interesting story from the day...
"Wait... Can You Actually EAT That?"
If I had a dollar for every time someone pointed at our chunk honey and asked, "But what do you DO with it?" or "Can you really eat the honeycomb?", well, I'd have enough to buy a whole lot more honey.
People were genuinely fascinated. They'd pick up the jar, turn it around, squint at the golden chunks of honeycomb suspended in that gorgeous raw wildflower honey, and look at us like we were trying to sell them edible gold (which, honestly, isn't far from the truth).
The questions came rapid-fire:
- "Is that wax?"
- "Do you spit it out?"
- "How do you get it out of the jar?"
- "Is it safe to eat?"
- "What does it taste like?"
We were mid-explanation, again, when something amazing happened.

Enter: Our Honeycomb Hero
A familiar face popped his head into the booth. One of our regular customers who'd been walking past with a strawberry daquiri in hand. He overheard the conversation, grinned, and couldn't help himself.
"Oh man, that stuff is absolutely incredible," he announced to the small crowd gathered around. "I spread it on toast and eat the whole thing, wax and all. It's like nothing you've ever tasted."
The curious onlookers turned to him like he'd just revealed the secret to eternal life.
"You eat the WAX?" someone asked.
"Absolutely! The whole honeycomb is delicious - especially spread on toast! In fact, I'm going to buy one now to take home."
And just like that, we sold out of our second batch (yes, second, as we already had our helper bring us a restock!) before 5 PM.

So... What Exactly IS Chunk Honey?
Let's back up for a second, because if you've never encountered honeycomb honey before, you're probably wondering what all the fuss is about.
Chunk honey (also called comb honey or honeycomb honey) is exactly what it sounds like: raw, unfiltered honey with actual pieces of the honeycomb still in it. It's honey the way bees made it, straight from the hive, in the wax cells they carefully constructed to store their liquid gold.
Our Raw Wildflower Chunk Honey is a 1.5 lb. jar of our best-selling, pure, single-origin Florida wildflower honey with generous chunks of edible honeycomb. It's raw, unfiltered, and contains all the natural enzymes, pollen, and nutrients that make raw honey so special.
When you open that jar, you're getting:
- Pure liquid gold: Raw wildflower honey from Florida's diverse native flora
- Edible honeycomb: Made from beeswax produced by the bees themselves
- Zero processing: We don't heat it, filter it, or mess with it in any way
- Maximum nutrition: All the good stuff that gets destroyed in commercial honey production

Yes, You Can (And Should) Eat The Wax
Here's the thing people don't realize: beeswax is completely edible and safe to eat. Bees make it from their own bodies, they literally sweat it out from special glands, and use it to build those perfect hexagonal cells. It's natural, it's pure, and humans have been eating it for thousands of years.
The wax in honeycomb is soft and pliable, nothing like the hard wax in candles. When you bite into it, it has a pleasant, slightly chewy texture that melts a bit as you eat it. Some people chew it like gum for a minute and then spit it out. Others (like our festival hero) eat the whole thing.
There's no wrong way to do it.
And here's the bonus: beeswax contains trace amounts of vitamins, minerals, and even some antibacterial properties. It's been used in natural remedies for centuries.
How to Use Raw Honeycomb (Our Favorite Ways)
After that festival day, we started keeping a running list of how people use our chunk honey. Here are the crowd favorites:
1. Spread It On Toast
This is the classic move. Take a spoonful of honey with a chunk of comb, spread it on warm toast, and let the wax melt slightly into the bread. Pure breakfast bliss.
2. Pair It With Cheese
Honeycomb is a charcuterie board's best friend. Place a chunk next to sharp cheddar, creamy brie, or tangy blue cheese. The combination is chef's kiss. Plus, your guests, if you have them, will be totally impressed - super classy!
3. Drizzle Over Greek Yogurt
Spoon some liquid honey and a small piece of comb over thick Greek yogurt. Add some granola and berries. You'll feel like you're eating at a fancy café.
4. Top Your Pancakes or Waffles
Forget maple syrup. Put a big spoonful of chunk honey on your pancakes and watch weekend breakfast transform into something magical.
5. Straight From The Jar
Sometimes you just need a spoonful of nature's candy. No judgment here.

Why Our Raw Wildflower Chunk Honey Is Different
Look, we could talk about our honey all day (and we often do). But here's what makes our chunk honey stand out from anything else you'll find at the store, or even at other farmers markets:
Single-Origin Florida Wildflower
This isn't a blend from multiple states or countries. It's 100% Florida wildflower honey from our own hives. You're tasting the diverse native flora of the Sunshine State in every bite.
Raw and Unfiltered
We never heat our honey or run it through fine filters. That means all the beneficial enzymes, pollen, and nutrients stay intact. It's honey in its most natural, nutritious form.
Beekeeper Harvested
Every jar is harvested, extracted, and jarred by our expert beekeepers. We know exactly where it came from and how it was handled. There's no middleman, no mass production, no shortcuts.
Sustainable Beekeeping
We treat our bees like the royalty they are. Healthy bees make the best honey, and we're committed to ethical, sustainable beekeeping practices that prioritize their wellbeing.
No Additives. Ever.
What you see is what you get: honey and honeycomb. No corn syrup, no sugar, no "honey blends," no weird stuff. Just pure, raw Florida honey the way nature intended.
The Wildflower Difference
When bees forage from wildflowers, rather than a single crop like orange blossoms or tupelo trees, you get something truly special. The flavor is complex, floral, and subtly different with every harvest depending on what's blooming.
Our wildflower honey captures the essence of Florida's diverse ecosystem. Think notes of clover, Spanish needle, saw palmetto, and dozens of other native blooms. It's like a symphony of flavors in every jar.
And when you get it with the comb? You're getting the full experience, the way people have enjoyed honey since the beginning of time.
What Happened After The Festival
By the end of Day 1, we'd answered that "can you eat the wax?" question at least 30 times. We'd watched skeptical faces turn into delighted smiles after their first taste. And we'd connected with dozens of new honey lovers who finally understood what all the buzz was about.
In fact, the woman who'd walked away with only one honeycomb after hearing our customer's first-hand testimonial came back about an hour later. This time? She grabbed a jar of our Chunk Honey and said that she wanted to try both!
That's the thing about real, raw honey with honeycomb. Once you experience it, you want to share it with everyone you love. It's not just honey, it's a conversation starter, a taste of nature's perfection, and a reminder that the best things in life are the simple, unprocessed, real things.
Ready To Try It For Yourself?
If you're curious about what all the fuss is about, we'd love for you to experience our 1.5 lb. Raw Wildflower Chunk Honey for yourself. Whether you spread it on toast, pair it with cheese, or eat it straight from the jar (we won't tell), you're in for something special.
And yes, you can absolutely eat the wax.
You deserve honey that's pure, real, and straight from the hive. No processing, no additives, no questions about what you're really eating. Just golden Florida sunshine in a jar, exactly the way the bees made it.
