Not All Honey is Created Equal: The Mitchem Standard

If you’ve spent any time looking at the honey aisle in a typical grocery store, you’ve seen the "generic" stuff. It’s usually cheap, it’s always perfectly clear, and it tastes... well, flat.

There’s a reason for that. To keep those prices bottom-of-the-barrel, many mass-market honey companies dilute their product with syrups or heat-treat it until it’s essentially just liquid sugar. They strip away the soul of the honey to make it cheap and shelf-stable forever.

At Mitchem Bee Company, we take a different approach. We are big believers in "cooperatition" over competition. We support all ethical beekeeping because every healthy hive supports the pollinators our planet depends on. If someone is out there taking care of bees and treating them right, they have our respect.

However, we also believe in being transparent: at the end of the day, not all honey is created equal.

The "Fancy" Honey Myth

It isn't just the cheap grocery store bears you have to watch out for. Even some of the "fancy" honey companies you see in boutique shops - the ones with the beautiful branding and the premium price tags - often don’t keep their honey raw. Much of it, while technically "pure" honey, has been heated to make bottling faster or includes honey sourced from overseas to pad their margins.

When you heat honey, you kill the natural enzymes. When you blend it with overseas honey, you lose the connection to the specific floral source that gives honey its character. You’re paying for a premium label, but you aren't necessarily getting a premium product.

The Mitchem Way

When we put the Mitchem name on a jar, it means something. We don't do "flat" taste. We don’t do syrups, and we definitely don’t do overseas fillers. We keep our honey:

Quality is Limited Frankly, we understand that our honey isn’t for everyone. Especially at our price point, we know we aren't the "budget" choice. But that’s okay. If our honey were for everyone, we wouldn't have enough to go around.

We only produce a limited amount of honey to the caliber we trust our name to be put on. We produce this for the true honey connoisseurs - the people who can tell the difference between a mass-produced sweetener and a true gift from the hive.
